Built on
Tradition
Heritage lime rendering and plastering for discerning homeowners across Somerset & the South West.
We believe that traditional buildings deserve traditional care. That lime — the material that has protected Britain's architecture for centuries — is not just an alternative, but the only right choice for heritage properties. This philosophy guides every project we undertake.
A Family Practice,
A Master's Standard
Nigel Murphy Restoration is a family-run specialist with over two decades of hands-on experience in traditional lime rendering and plastering. We work exclusively with heritage-appropriate materials and time-honoured techniques that modern alternatives simply cannot replicate.
Based in Williton, Somerset, our small and dedicated team serves homeowners, architects and conservation officers throughout the South West. We treat every property as though it were our own — approaching each stone, each mix, each coat with patience, precision and a genuine respect for the building's history.
From initial survey through to the final finish, you deal directly with us. Not a sales team, not subcontractors. Just skilled tradespeople who are genuinely passionate about what they do.
Our work is built on a deep understanding of traditional lime chemistry, local stone types and the way old buildings move and breathe. Every specification is written for the property in front of us — no off-the-shelf packages, no shortcuts.

The Beginning
Nigel Murphy begins his career working alongside master craftsmen on heritage properties across Somerset, learning traditional lime techniques passed down through generations.

Growing Reputation
The team grows to meet demand across the South West. Projects include Grade I and II listed buildings, conservation area properties, and National Trust estates. Relationships with conservation officers deepen.
Heritage Leaders
Nigel Murphy Restoration is now one of the South West's most trusted heritage lime specialists. Over 500 projects completed, with a 100% client recommendation rate and a growing portfolio of landmark restorations.
Why Clients Choose Us
We combine craftsmanship, conservation know-how and a commitment to lasting performance.
- Direct contact with the person doing the work — no sales team, no middlemen.
- Heritage-qualified approach tailored to listed buildings, conservation areas and period homes.
- In-house mixing and application for consistent colour, texture and performance.
- Clear communication and site cleanliness as standard.
Why Lime, Not Cement
Cement render is rigid and non-breathable. On a pre-1920s building, it traps moisture inside the walls, causing damp, decay and structural damage over time. It's the single most common cause of deterioration we see in period properties.
Lime render is flexible, breathable and self-healing. It allows moisture to move naturally through the wall, preventing trapped damp while providing excellent weather protection. It's the material these buildings were designed for — and it's the only material we use.
